Program’s Mission

Department of respiratory therapy seeks to prepare highly efficient and skillful respiratory therapy practitioner through distinctive academic environment and innovative scientific research and to increase community awareness about the importance of this specialty.

 


Educational Objectives

     

    1. To provide the public and private sectors with a well-trained and qualified applied medical Sciences graduate. Sciences
    2. To provide the scientific and medical research centers with skillful researchers.
    3. To conduct scientific research to the community health problems.
    4. To ensure proper training for student to acquire Skills needed for respiratory therapy, management, and safety. 
    5. To carry out needs of respiratory therapy required by the government or private sectors.
    6. To participate in community service by providing appropriate respiratory therapy counseling services to government and private institutions.
    7. To raise community health awareness by organizing courses and seminars.
    8. To insure the application of Islamic values and ethics in respiratory therapy practice.

    Knowledge and Understanding
    K1Define medical terminologies, abbreviations and symbols used in respiratory therapy.‎
    K2Recognize basic sciences as a foundation for understanding the clinical examination, intervention, and prognosis in the field of respiratory therapy.
    K3Identify indications, contraindications, complications and related hazards for different diagnostic, therapeutic and ancillary ‎procedures used in the field of respiratory therapy
    K4Describe adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary diseases, medical conditions that require respiratory care and outline the steps in performing diagnostic, therapeutic and ancillary respiratory therapy ‎procedures.
    Skills
    S1Differentiate between scientific theories and principles and its application in respiratory therapy physiology, modalities and properly select the required respiratory care equipment to carry out the Respiratory therapy plan.
    S2Effectively demonstrate and recognize normal and abnormal findings in physical assessment, laboratory data, diagnostic imaging (chest radiographs), audio-visual interfaces (monitors), and graphic forms and prints in professionally way by using of information-based technology to generate data and hypotheses.
    S3Effectively recognize and apply international, institutionally based standards, policies, guidelines, protocols to carry out respiratory care management and ethical standards to resolve clinical dilemmas.
    S4Accurately perform diagnostic testing procedures, monitoring, record and   interpret results of chest radiographs, laboratory data, blood gas, cardiopulmonary function studies, polysomnography, and ventilatory mechanics within the boundaries of health in addition to Carry out safety issues in the laboratory and during patient care.
    Values, Autonomy, and Responsibility
    V1Obtain pertinent information from medical personnel, patients, relatives, medical records, various hospital forms and provide instructions to patient in performing diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers or procedures.
    V2Accurately read, obtain, and analyze data from graphic forms/flow sheets, print outs, analog, digital graphic displays and give oral reports/endorsements (e.g. patient's clinical status, changes in clinical plan or settings) to colleagues, other medical staff, and electronic correspondence by using information technology.
    V3Accurately provide information and/or data on respiratory care services and other medical forms in order to raise community awareness of respiratory care importance. 
    V4Work effectively as a contributing team member respectful of cultural diversity and individual differences with establish safe working practices for self and others relative to equipment and machinery, handling of product, disposal of materials and relevant legislation.​​
