Balqarn:

 A new branch of King Khalid University was established in the province of Balqarn, in 1430 AH which includes a set of departments. The most important of which are: English Language, mathematics and computer science, Islamic studies, and business administration. Joining the educational system at King Khalid University in Abha, was undertaken during the same year. On the second of Jumada Al-Akhera in 1435 AH, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, -may God have mercy on him- ordered the conversion of the branch of King Khalid University in Bisha and the neighboring governorates into an independent university, called the University of Bisha. Now, University of Bisha includes several colleges in the provinces where campuses are in Bisha, Al Namas, and Balqarn and Tathlith.

It is located on the tops of the Sarawat Mountains in the southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is the northern gateway to the Asir region. Location and Borders:

Balqarn Province is around 21,000 square kms, about 50-60 kms from the east to the west. The population is approximately 100,000 people, who most of them live in the middle east. They maintain to work in both sectors government and private, while others work in the field of trade, agriculture and handicrafts, beside raising livestock and bees.

 

Landforms:

The landforms are varied on the Sarwat Mountain ranges and divided into three sections:

First, the western slopes overlooking Tuhama, it is well known for extreme ruggedness and downhill slopes. Forests and grasses grow on the edge of the deep valleys which exist there, thus, these areas are quite good for grazing sheep. The second section is the heights that lie between the western and eastern slopes and vary in height between 2300 meters to 2800 meters. These areas form the region(Shaaf), that is distributing water lines between the eastern and western valleys, and contains most of the ancient farms and villages.

The third section is the eastern slopes, where they descend gradually toward the east. They have little rugged, interspersed downhills with a number of valleys and reefs. Richly covered with trees of sorghum, Sidr, several herbs and aromatic plants, which are pastoral areas for most of the province's livestock, and it is one of the most important tributaries of the valleys of Bisha and Tabala and Ranyah.
