About the department

The Department of Mathematics has established in 1421 AH with the beginning of the establishment of the College of Education for Girls in Al-Namas. It is one of the first scientific departments in Al-Namas, and since then 19 classes have graduated from the department until the year 1441 AH. The department developed with the development of the College of Education into the College of Science and Arts and its accession to King Khalid University in 2006. Currently, it belongs to the University of Bisha under the Faculty of Science and Arts in Al-Namas. It is in continuous development since its inception in terms of the scientific disciplines it provides in the subjects of pure and applied mathematics and statistics, as most of the current teaching members in the department are graduates of this department.

 The vision

In line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, the Mathematics Department seeks to graduate competencies capable of working in fields that serve the future vision of the country, as mathematics is a strong foundation for many fields such as statistics, artificial intelligence, data analysis, engineering, physics, finance, and many others. Because of the analytical nature of mathematics, it is considered one of the most important fields in scientific research. Therefore, the department seeks to establish a good research base in new fields such as medicine, epidemiology, public health, and others.

 Department objectives

The development of analytical abilities and logical thinking in solving problems is one of the most important guaranteed objectives of the study of mathematics. In addition, the department aims to develop the skills of critical thinking, mathematical analysis, and conclusion through various mathematical sciences in theoretical and numerical analysis, and the application of these results and their interpretation on real-life in several different areas. These skills are aimed primarily at graduating a scientific researcher who has the ability to pursue graduate studies and practical research and to carry out unique research with a scientific impact in the scientific community.

The department also aims, through the diversity of the school materials provided to the student, to prepare the graduate for several diverse fields in careers such as banking, research centers, and data analysis, artificial intelligence. In addition to that, the graduate is accredited as a mathematics teacher in all general educational stages.

 Department mission

Mathematics is one of the oldest sciences that mankind has learned. It is also a basis for many sciences. Muslim scholars have paid much attention to it. Al-Khwarizmi called it “the science of logic”. The department’s mission is to consolidate this principle among future generations and contribute to its development and elevation to the highest levels and empower the student with all its tools to graduate with science and knowledge that serve the community and contribute to the flourishing of all sciences.
