An overview of the Department of Home Economics, vision, mission and goals

 

About the department:

     The college was established under the name of the Intermediate College in Al-Namas and affiliated to the Ministry of Education (Agency for Girls' Colleges in Riyadh), by Resolution No. (615 -1 M-1 S) on (12/22/1412 AH), and the duration of the study was two academic years, and the college was developed into the College of Education To prepare female teachers by Resolution No. (11734-11 Q) dated (2/4/1421 AH), issued by His Excellency the General President for Girls' Education, so that the study period in the college becomes four academic years, and the college grants its graduates a Bachelor of Education and Science.

     The Home Economics Department is concerned with opening students ’perceptions and focusing on the scientific side, as home economics is no longer limited to merely teaching practical skills only, but rather the interest in theoretical and practical studies to keep pace with scientific and technological development, and to link study materials with the needs of society and the environment, in order to prepare female graduates who are able to Good handling of the requirements of the times, with the aim of preparing female educational teachers specialized in teaching branches and fields of home economics for the intermediate and secondary levels, and keeping pace with modern goals. The college joined King Khalid University on (5/6/1428 AH), and two batches have been graduated so far, and the department was restructured in (1433 AH) and the new courses and levels of the department were updated.

Vision:

The Home Economics Department seeks to be a distinguished educational and research institution in its applied specializations in accordance with international quality standards. We hope to provide precise specializations (nutrition, clothing and weaving, fashion design, art education, housing management) to provide various job opportunities that are commensurate with the labor market.

Vission :

    The Department of Home Economics seeks to prepare female graduates in various fields (nutrition, clothing, textile and housing management) who are able to meet the needs of society, educational projects and small industrial projects and are able to achieve competition locally and regionally. The department also seeks to develop the capabilities and skills of faculty members to use the best technologies in The educational process, and the development of the scientific research system in line with the requirements of the labor market, through effective community participation.  

Objectives:

The main mission of the department is to serve the family and society to achieve development, provide a better life, and work to improve and upgrade the home environmental conditions and health status through:

  • Ensuring that graduates are well prepared through advanced and appropriate education for students of the department and achieving communication between academic study and the social needs of the family, society and the state.
  • Good counseling services and educational research that extend to communicate with citizens and enable them to solve their problems, use their own resources wisely, and preserve their health.
  • Applying the results of scientific research and making use of technological advances in improving living methods and advancing family life and society.
  • Opening new horizons for the female labor market to meet family needs in various fields in society.
  • Effective participation of the family in forming habits and attitudes related to behaviors and ethics associated with the life of the Muslim family.
  • Preparing Saudi citizenship in preparation that enables it to perform the duties of a Muslim woman “wife, mother, and nanny,” meaning that she is the manager of all family resources. Conducting research in the field of home economics in its various branches.
  • Encouraging handicrafts to create job opportunities for those with manual skills.
  • Paying attention to small enterprises that are interested in clothing, design, nutrition and the arts, to benefit from the human potential to develop the national economy.
  • Establishing specialized programs and activities for the department's female students to develop talents and manual skills.
  • Organizing periodic exhibitions for talented students of the department.

Program degrees:

The department awards a bachelor's degree in science and arts, majoring in home economics.​
